This is where you can learn more about the characters you love and hate from the books you fell in love with . . .
- Katniss Everdeen is the 16-year-old girl. She lives in a region of District 12 known as the Seam, which is the poorest area of the district. She is described as having dark hair, olive skin, and grey eyes. She is best friends with Gale Hawthorne, and breaks the law with him regularly to go hunting in the woods surrounding their district, which is a forbidden act, yet never get caught as many important people buy their kills so they can support their families. She volunteers to be a tribute in the Games in order to save her sister, Primrose Everdeen, who was originally chosen. She survives the Games along with Peeta Mellark under the mentorship of Haymitch Abernathy and comes home to live in the victors village with Prim and her mom, having Peeta and Haymich as neighbors. She ends up deciding that Peeta was the one in only one spot but there was many things that lead up to it. Her decision was finally made when she said 'Real' at the end of the series, but the events leading up to that like saying before the quell that she wanting to spend the rest of her life with Peeta in the garden. She ends up falling in love with Peeta, I mean who wouldn't, and has two kids. They end up in the epilogue living in district 12. Just Katniss, Peeta, and their two kids living in a time without the hunger games, a place where everyone is guarded from that kind of harm. A place where it is golden with no fighting and wars. A peaceful place in the future where everyone is safe and sound.
- Primrose Everdeen is a 12-year-old girl. She is the younger sister of Katniss Everdeen, and called 'Prim'. She is originally chosen to go into the Hunger Games but Katniss volunteers as tribute to save Prim. She lives in the seam with her sister, mother, buttercup (cat), and their goat. She is great with medicine but horrible at hunting because it involves killing animals. She has blond hair and blue eyes like their mom, Mrs. Everdeen. Prim's name was only put in the bowl once and it was chosen but Katniss would not let that happen so she volnteers for her, making Prim watch from district 12, safe, but starving and a little depressed.
- Peeta Mellark is 16 years old as well, and was born in the richer part of the district to a baker. He has wavy blonde hair and blue eyes, a physical indicator of the wealthier people who were born in town, and is described as being very strong. He is the chosen male tribute to represent District 12. He saves Katniss' life multiple times during the Games, and has had a crush on her since he first saw her but never had the courage to reveal it until the Games, and they fall in love making it the ultimate weapon for anyone to use against Katniss, like in the 3rd book. Peeta, in the first book, confirms his love for Katniss in his first interview for the hunger games, and so they fall in love throughout the trilogy.
- Haymitch Abernathy is the mentor of Peeta Mellark and Katniss Everdeen, and is the tribute winner of the 50th Hunger Games. Haunted by the nightmares of the Games he was in, he is always drunk, and is rarely sober throughout the book. At first he does not bother to protect Peeta and Katniss from the doom awaiting them in the Games, but after they prove their strength he guides them to the very end of the Games.
- Gale Hawthorne is 18 in the first book of the trilogy, and is Katniss's best friend and 'cousin'. They met in the forest a few years prior to the beginning of the novel and since then became best friends and hunting partners. Gale's appearance is similar to Katniss', as is true of most people who live in the seam, their area. Gale enjoys to call Katniss 'Catnip' because when they met Katniss was not loud enough and Gale though he heard Catnip. Gale, along with Katniss, break the rules everyday to go hunting for food in the wooded area around district 12. Gale became head of the Hawthorne family after his father was killed along with Katniss's father in a mine explosion.
- Effie Trinket is the cordinator who organizes events for Peeta and Katniss (district 12 tributes). Like a typical Capitol citizen, she often seems to miss the point. Whether she's being deliberately obtuse (that is, she's ignoring the truth on purpose because she doesn't want to know it), or she's just a little out of it. In the books she is portrayed as a fashionista, which fits cause she's from the capitol. She is in all three books and is a "fascinating" person in general.
